Etowah Arts is an organization for artists, makers and aesthetes in north Georgia that fosters education, advocacy, and visibility in order to strengthen the role of the arts in our communities.
Jamie Foster Foreman and Shanna Jackson Coulter are the founders of Etowah Arts. As artists, business owners, and community advocates, they have been involved with the creative happenings of Canton, Georgia, for many years.
Jamie owns Menagerie on Main, the art gallery in downtown Canton, where she and around 50 local artists show, sell and teach. Jamie is responsible for connecting artists and the community through several art festivals in the region, including the West Main Arts Festival. Her work to build and sustain the arts can be followed at Menagerie on Main.
Shanna owns Local Color Studio, a community art studio previously located in downtown Canton. Her vision of a community of artists working together and supporting each other is realized through teaching art and operating a pottery studio in Canton. You can follow her work at www.shannacoulter.com
The two decided to take up the challenge to create an organization for the incredible art community in and around Canton after an episode of Creatives on the Couch, a periodic live show reporting on the state of the arts in Canton. Lamenting the void left by the Cherokee Arts Center, they decided to start Etowah Arts. Together, they continue to work to make art more accessible, more visible, and more appreciated because they believe in its transformative power. Etowah Arts was established as a domestic nonprofit corporation with a board of directors to ensure its functionality and sustainability.
Etowah Arts provides creative development through monthly figure drawing opportunities, and educational presentations at quarterly guild meetings in Canton, GA. The Etowah Arts guild is an opportunity for stakeholders to unite with creatives in a cross-pollination model to strengthen the arts community. These meetings include networking, educational presentations, and a progress report on the arts. Meetings are held at The Mill on Etowah. Etowah Arts will buttress creative projects, public art, and opportunities for more creativity in our communities through fundraising, guild memberships and grants. Etowah Arts will work to fulfill the mission of more vibrant, sustainable and visible creative communities.

Art has played such an important role in my life, both as a potter and an enthusiast, that I'm excited to join Etowah Arts to help others find the same connection.

After retiring from a career in homeschooling, Denise is focusing on all art, all the time: learning, doing and experiencing.
